CHEMICAL PEEL AFTERCARE
It is important to take care of your face isn’t he healing process to help you skin maximize the peel benefits
* Be sun savvy, stay away from direct sunlight, and use plenty of SPF 30+. The skin is very sensitive post peel due to layers of skin removal. The new skin revealed post peel is vulnerable to the harsh UV rays. Continue to using sunscreen all year along is a healthy habit anyways.
* Use soap-free cleansers, or invest into a mild one. Soap-free facial washes are safe on sensitive skin, and wont over dry or tighten your skin post peel. The skin is already stripped enough after a peel.
* Mindful in using cool or lukewarm water instead of hot water. This avoid further inflammation. Pat your skin rather than rub your skin during cleaning step.
* Moisturizer your skin as much you can to stay hydrated , and to restore some moisture. Your moisturizer should be free of hard chemicals and irritants such as acids and acne treatments. A water-based moisturizer with high water content and light weight would feel wonderful to smooth your skin. Bear in mind that moisturizing may prolong the peeling process because it softened skin, and inhibit the skin to flake off as fast as it could.
* Stay away from other exfoliator since it just went under the most extreme exfoliation already. Wait at least 5 days before introducing other home care exfoliators. For medium to deep chemical peels, weeks might be needed.
* Stay away from retinol in any percentage (0.1% to 1%). Retinols are great skincare products for encouraging new cell growth and turnover. So we want to avoid the skin into cell turnover overload. The more is not better. It is recommended to stop using your retinol a week before any peel. Let the skin heal 2 weeks average before resuming retinols.
* Avoid peeling, picking or prodding if possible on any loose skin. By interfering with the skin’s natural shedding process, it can lead to micro-tearing, bleeding or scarring, which is worst than any temporary flaking of dry skin.
